Choose one of the three translated excerpts from ancient texts given on the following page, and write a well-organized essay that addresses all the following questions:
- What kind of text is this, and from what kind of context (place, period, institutional or social setting) did it probably originate? Make your arguments using comparisons with texts and other information in the course readings and class slides.
- What were the likely or possible original purposes for this text?
