The article, Death and Justice by Edward I Koch, is an interesting read, for it makes us question whether or not capital punishment is the right course of action to take. The main premise of the article is that capital punishment is not only just, but necessary.
The author targets all those readers who feel strongly about their security and safety, and he tries to emotionally appeal to the readers, by giving examples of how, had capital punishment been used, then the extent of violence prevalent in the society would have been marginally reduced, if not eliminated. 文章分析课业代写
The article was arranged in a manner which allowed the readers to not only be able to relate and understand the points the author makes, but also support them. Mr. Koch contends that capital punishment is no more barbaric than using radical surgery or chemotherapy to fight a disease (Micheal, 2018). Throughout the article, he gives examples, and relates it to the already prevalent rules in the society, even bringing in the use of chemotherapy to save lives. In my opinion, the author presented these examples, primarily because he wanted the readers to be able to understand the notion he was trying to create.

Instead of taking aid of two different views to ascertain which course of action is the right one, he only provides biased opinions and examples, which support his own examples only. For example, when he compares taxation with capital punishment and extortion, he is able to shed light on what the entire articles is based on, i.e. he views capital punishment is the same context as that of taxation. In my opinion, presenting a skewed analysis which appeals to the emotions of the reader and makes them want to consider the possibility of capital punishment as just is extremely wrong.

Then in the future murder would also be considered the right thing to do, since based on one particular individual’s perception, it would be correct, just like in the author’s view capital punishment is not only correct but extremely necessary. These issues need to be highlighted and discussed for it will allow, not only the readers, but also the writer to reflect on his views, and understand the implications of treating capital punishment as just.
The author makes use of pathos, i.e. the emotional appeal in order to persuade the audience that his point of view is not only correct but something that everybody should agree with. The one aspect of this essay that I would like to incorporate in my own essay would be the use of ethos to the author’s advantage. Emotional appeal, I believe is one of the most persuasive ways of pretending an argument when used effectively and this should be used.
