e. Assess each of the above for a few selected years over the last decade:  Have there been any important changes in the level of trade, types of trade, or trade partners?  Any ideas for the reason for the changes?  (When you select years, start with the most recently available – then go back 10 years, and then pick at least one year in the middle.  If there was some important economic event in your country’s recent history, you might choose the year after that too to see if there were any important changes.)

Accuracy and Reliability:

You should verify the legitimacy of your resources.  Keep in mind that, much of the information on the Internet is not reliable, since they often reflect opinions of people who are not experts on the areas.  You may use institutional resources, such as, World Bank, IMF, WTO, NBER, UN, and individual countries’ official web sites.

If you would like to use individual people’s webpages, make sure that the author is recognized as an expert in the field.  The recognized expert might be an author of published materials in scholarly periodicals or books.  However, even though you use reliable sources, make sure you check for spellings, grammatical errors and logical inconsistencies in them.

Message boards and blogs should not be used in your paper.

Anything WIKI is questionable, thus should not referred in your assignment.

Objectivity:

Ideally, your source should be unbiased.  However, you can use sources whose biases are known with special caution.  Usually, an institutional authority may be biased and may disclose it.  For example, the Webpage of FEE (Foundation for Economic Education: http://fee.org/about/) states that the Organization supports classical liberal tradition in free-market economics while a website on the command economies would not.  You can use both kinds of sources, with caution.

Notes:

do not pick illegal goods

do not pick up countries which do not have reliable data

look at different patterns of data

produce an objective paper, not an advocacy piece

keep in mind that your target audience is your classmates, i.e. do not keep your paper at the most simplistic way.

Finally, among others, the following links are of great use for your assignment.  However, you should NOT restrict your references with these, only.
