Unlike hard skills, where an individual needs to have particular knowledge to do their job, soft skills may refer to personal qualities, attributes, or attitudes to make one a good employee and perform their tasks well. This may mean having the ability to communicate well with others, managing time, and being professionally ethical. One of the sectors I would wish to work in in the distant future is the social sector which is perceived to work in the sector; one is required to make a difference. Networking skills are one of the vital skills everyone aspiring to be and is in the social sector has it immensely helps in building connections and exchange of knowledge. In this case, it is one of the most important components of an employee in the social sector. Each day social workers have to interact with clients whereby they have to communicate with the clients in order to gather information, pass critical information to them and make crucial decisions. Without good communication skills, gathering or sharing information by a social worker might be hard and harmful to the clients.

Social workers frequently need to get information from individuals who are unwilling to give it to them or who may be challenging to understand (Ismail, 2020). To obtain the necessary information, a social worker needs to know how to ask the right questions. They must also modify their questions’ wording to make them more understandable to their clients. Therefore knowing how to employ alternative methods of information gathering, such as word association or role acting, tends to be the best communication skill ever for social workers.

In communication skills, there’s the use of non-verbal behaviors whereby social workers usually maintain eye contact when speaking with clients or any other people within the same vicinity. Just by pasting a smile, the social workers seem generally to be more approachable, just the same as maintaining a reasonable distance between the social worker and the client, which results in more comfort in the room. In order to enhance one’s management abilities, comprehending and applying the many forms of soft skills like communication skills with superiors, subordinates, and colleagues should always be maintained.

Another soft skill is teamwork skill which is an essential skill for every social sector to be successful.

One needs teamwork skills in order to operate well enough with their customers, bosses, coworkers, and other external partners. Employers choose applicants with these teamwork skills as they usually promote a positive workplace culture and enable the organization to achieve its objectives (Murugan, & Sujatha, 2020). In the social sector, team members employing soft skills like teamwork skills always put the interests of the group above their own. In fact, the ability to work well in a team tends to be one of the qualities that employers highly value. Team members usually need a set of soft skills known as teamwork skills to cooperate and meet a common objective. Employers value traits like communication, active listening, responsibility, honesty, and adaptability in team members.

In addition, being professionally ethical is another soft skill in the social sector, whereby it is a moral standard based on dedication and hard work at the workplace. Each person has different standards of behavior at work (Vasanthakumari, 2019). One does not have to adhere to a single set of work ethic principles as each culture, region, and country usually has a different one. Therefore, ethical practice is all about a person’s appropriate behavior. From the viewpoint of an enterprise, having a professional ethic is vital since it inspires trust in both the clients’ and consumers’ minds. The manner in which consumers and lower-level staff are treated improves the company’s reputation, particularly in the social sector.
